She first appears in the sequel film The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride. She's lioness, the most loyal follower of Scar. Simba banished her and the rest of the followers from the pride at some point before the birth of the cub at the end of the first film (as in Kiara.) She's also the mother of Kovu, a young male cub who eventually falls in love with Kiara and Kiara with him. Zira was originally intented to have been Scar's mate and Kovu to be Scar's biological son, but this was changed before the production was finished; now in the official story Kovu is not Scar's biological son but only adopted. Whether Zira still is supposed to have been Scar's mate has not been confirmed by the film's creators but it can validly be assumed they changed that too along with Kovu havng a father that isn't Scar.
In the movie Lion King Scar and Mufassa die.

Yes, she's a female lion, in a word; a lioness.
In the original Lion King movie, the evil lion is Scar, who teams up Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed, who are hyenas. In Lion King 2, the evil lions are Zira, (Scar's mate,) Nuka, (Zira's son,) and Vitani (Zira's daughter.) For a while, Scar's heir, Kovu, is evil, but he becomes good. Kovu is the adopted son of Scar and Zira.
