There is no king of New Zealand at present. The British monarch, who is also the legal head of state of New Zealand is currently Queen Elizabeth the second.
Because of the British rule for cognatic primogeniture (where the eldest son inherits the title, and the eldest daughter inherits where there are no sons,) her husband does not gain the title of King on marriage because this would imply he was the ruler.
The Maori King of New Zealand is currently Tuhetia Paki. The Maori monarch is a symbolic, non-constitutional role with no legal standing, but great prestige. The role was created by several iwi in the 1850s to bring unity to the separate iwi and to create a position equivalent to that of Queen Victoria. It is a non-hereditary position.
