Who are indegeous people?

The indigenous people generally refer to those groups of people who predate the creation of the Nation state in the area, or colonisation. In Canada this generally means Aboriginals who immigrated to North America many hundreds and thousands of years ago.

But they are not the only people who would consider themselves indigenous. Those whose family immigrated in the 1600's and 1700's have hundreds of years in this land and for most of them their only homeland is North America. Their history predates any of the Nation states in North America, and they too meet the definition of indigenous.
