Houston is named after Sam Houston
As a citizen of Houston, I can tell you that Houston is the location of Sam Houston Park. It is not a memorial park though- I don't think there is a "Sam Houston Memorial Park, unless it is the one in Huntsville which claims the largest statue of Sam Houston. Houston is also home of the Statue of General Sam Houston -more of a memorial- and Sam Houston is who Houston was named after. The statue is in the Hermann Park. In the same park as the Houston Zoo and in the blocks surrounding Hermann park is the Museum District containing all of Houston's large variety of Museums, including the Children's Museum, The Science and Natural History Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts, and quite a few others. The park has been extensively renovated over the last 10 years and is now quite impressive. There is still more to come, such as a dog park and improved playground and picnic areas. The actual Sam Houston Park is near downtown, in the NW area of the inner 610 loop.Sam Houston Park is a park located in downtown Houston, Texas, and is dedicated to the buildings and culture of Houston's historic past. The park, which was the first to be established in the city, was developed on land purchased by former Mayor Sam Brashier in 1900.Here are some pictures on Flickr, and more details in Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herman_parkhttp://www.flickr.com/search/?q=sam%20houston%20memorial%20park&w=allhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Houstonhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sam_Houston_Huntsville_Statue.jpg
