It depends on if you're referring to the Jerry Lewis original or the Eddie Murphy remake. The original Jekyll-Hyde-like comedy, which starred Lewis (who also directed, co-produced and co-wrote the project), was filmed in late 1962 and released in 1963;
Murphy's remake was released in 1996 and a sequel "Nutty Professor ll: The Klumps" appeared in theaters in 2000. A second sequel starring Murphy reportedly is in the planning stages.
