Two main religions emerged in India: Hinduism and Buddhism while other civilizations generally had one unified belief system such as the Hebrews, Greeks and Egypt. There was often evidence of cross- cultural influences. Religion often impacted their societies as well. In the ancient world, there were 4 philosophical/religious revolutions that all occurred in or near the Indus River Valley, they were all born of crisis in the ancient world and each revolution established cultural patterns that endure to the present day.
Indian religion saw a never-ending cycle of birth and rebirth. Good actions could result in a person's being reborn in a higher state, even as a god. Completed withdrawal from the world could lead to escape from the rebirth cycle and into nonexistence.

There are 4 noble truths in Buddhism: 1) all life is suffering, 2) suffering creates desires 3) The cessation of suffering is attainable. 4) The path to the cessation of suffering. The 8 fold path gives compassion to all being, and control your thoughts. There are three main branches to the eightfold path. Under wisdom was the right view and interpretation. Under ethical conduct was right speech, right action, right livelihood, and under Mental development was right effort, right mindfulness and right concentration.
