Then Craig's model girlfriend comes home and Ellie is heart broken so she takes a bottle of alcohol and drinks it at Paige's Hollywood birthday party when Craig comes to apologize, but she doesn't want anything to do with him, so she leaves. Then later on the beach, she is still drinking and is about to commit suicide by drowning herself but Craig and Marco stop her just in time. She stays at Craig's to sleep and decides that it is time to stop running from what really matters so she goes home the next day. Craig drops her off at the air port and she walks away, but then both run back and kiss before she finally goes to see her dad at the hospital. Her spot in the show ends with her at the hospital, hugging her dad as she cries.

Craig tells her she can stay with him when she and Marco have a falling out, and he plays her the song he wrote for her while in rehab, saying that if she ever needs someone he will rescue her like she rescued him. They share a great day, and Craig begins to realize how empty his life is without her, but when his girlfriend shows up at his condo Ellie sees that she once again misinterpreted his sweet gestures of friendship as romance, and she leaves saying that she just has to stop thinking her feelings for him will ever be requited. Craig comes to Paige's party looking for Ellie, but when he tries to explain what she means to his life he sees that she's been drinking, and Marco tells him about her father returning from Afghanistan and her conflicted emotions of guilt and fear. Craig and Marco rescue Ellie when she wades out into the ocean, since she doesn't know how to swim, and Craig takes care of her. Ellie tells him that she knows she can't fix her father's post traumatic stress disorder and Craig tells her that no one expects her to take care of everyone else without having her own needs. He tenderly brushes her hair back and makes her breakfast before taking her to the airport so she can go see her father in the hospital. As she's leaving Craig regrets not being able to tell her how much he loves her and everything he feels for her, but just before she boards the plane they both turn around and go back to each other as if pulled together by some magnetic force. They hug and then kiss, knowing that although they're in different places, they're connected by something deeper and one day they'll be together.
