Wishniak is a cherry alcoholic beverage that was made by my Russian great-grandfather in the Bronx. My mother remembers that he made it in a barrel that was in the corner of his living room behind a piano which was catty corner. There was an American flag draped over it. There were fermanting cherries in the barrel and he would feed the cherries to my mother and her brother. Her mom would get mad at him and say, "Dad, stop feeding cherries to the kids! You'll get them drunk!" I only know what wishniak is because of this family story which I love. I'm interested to see if anyone else has wisniak memories.
