Kangaroos and rabbits are both mammals with "jumping" as the primary form of locomotion. That is about where the similarity ends. Rabbits and kangaroos are not even in the same group of mammals - rabbits are placental mammals and kangaroos are marsupials.

  • Kangaroos and wallabies, together with numerous other species, are in the "kangaroo" family.
  • They are marsupials, pouched mammals which give birth to very undeveloped young which must undergo most of their growth and development in a pouch, rather than in the uterus.
  • They are macropods, both having long hind feet and strong back legs which use a springing movement for locomotion.
  • Kangaroos and wallabies are herbivores, feeding on grasses and fresh vegetation.
  • Both are native to the country and continent of Australia.
  • Both creatures have embryonic diapause, that is, the ability to suspend the development of an embryo in the womb until conditions are right for it to be born.

Similarities between squirrels and kangaroos include:

  • They are both warm-blooded, air-breathing mammals.
  • They both have fur.
  • Both feed their young on mothers' milk.
  • They have similar internal organs with similar functions, e.g. heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, etc.
That's about where the similarities end.
