It varies. A few years ago, DivX and XviD was used to encode videos into .mp4, .wmv etc. These could be as much as 350MB for 480p (or equivalent), over 600MB for 720p. This is for 1hr (43min) episodes.

Nowadays the H.264 codec is widely used, mainly becuase it offers far better video compression. The TV episodes I usually download now are 480p, and can be as little as 165MB (up to around 250MB) for 480p, 300MB+ for 720p, and are usually in .mkv format.

This is based on information I know, so it might be quite limited, but it's the general idea.
