In an inference I made in Paranormal Activity 3's trailer (Since PA 3 is where the demon first came...) it showed Kristie and Katy doing the Bloody Mary thing which at the end of that scene you saw a shadow of a girl demon.
So the demon is probably Bloody Mary...
(In the folklore of Bloody Mary she most likely kills the person who summoned her or less likely just to haunt them the rest of their lives)
In Paranormal Activity, they explain that a ghost is the spirit of a person who used to be human. A demon was never human - it is a purely evil spirit.
The demon itself is never shown. You only see it when it possesses a human. When a human is possessed like Katie in part one, there are times when they are shown with a demonic face.
