Lady Macbeth receives a letter from her husband, shortly before he returns to his castle Inverness. The latter basically explains Macbeth's experience with the witches, and informs LadyM about the prophecies told unto him.

The prophecies for her husband (especially about him becoming king) excites LadyM and she becomes very evil and ambitious after reading the letter.
