they are both types of music. They can both have the exact chord progressions for one. You can just as easily play a 1, 3, 5 progression in a rock tune as you can in a classical piece. In fact, Bach was known for his basic jazz feel, which can be easily turned into rock, or compared; look at Blood Sweat and Tears or Chicago who are Rock/Jazz bands. You can also take a sweet arpeggio from a classical song and produce a great rock Ballad. The time signature was changed from 3/4 to 4/4 but the melody remained the same.
Well, this isn't really heavy metal, its screamo, but if you listen to BrokeNCYDE's music, their songs are the same as rap, same beats and lyrics, the lyrics are just screamed or yelled instead of said or sung.

Some rap songs contain insults or curses, while some are clean and just want to bring the message.
