Regular light bulbs work as heaters while giving light.

More than half the power used by Incandescent Bulbs goes to heating your room, rather than lighting it.

Most household electricity supplies come from rainwater flowing downhill (Hydroelectricity), or boiling water to drive steam turbines with coal, oil or nuclear heaters.

Fluorescent lights emit a narrower range of light wavelengths, using their input power more efficiently.

LED lights emit on an even narrower range of light, so are brighter within their colour.

Lasers can be even more efficient, but they are often so focussed and one coloured that they are not very useful for household lighting.

Global warming can be considered one the effects of light bulbs. Many people had a lack of sleep when they were invented because their offices or factories were able to open though it was dark (gas and fire were available to light the dark, but it was expensive)
