Direhorse: A six-legged, horse-like animal that the Na'vi bond with and ride. The Na'vi name is pa'li.

Hexapede: A six-legged forest animal that the Na'vi hunt for its leather, and the animal Jake learns to hunt. The Na'vi name is yerik.

Prolemuris: six-legged (two conjoined arms) squirrel monkey-like primate. The small animals Jake almost shoots before Dr. Augustine stops him. Na'vi name unknown.

Mountain Banshee: A winged predator the Na'vi join with and ride; the first joining is the last step for a Na'vi to become a hunter. The Na'vi name is ikran.

Great Leonopteryx: Large flying predator and the animal Jake bonds with to unite the tribes. The Na'vi name is toruk. A rider of this beast is called toruk makto(also spelled "macto").

Thanator: Large, panther-like land predator. This is the animal that chases and attacks Jake, and the one Neytiri rides during the battle. The Na'vi name is palulukan.

Viperwolf: Nocturnal, wolf-like land predator. The animals Neytiri rescues Jake from at their first encounter. The Na'vi name is nantang.

Hammerhead Titanothere: Large forest herbivore with a bony, "hammerhead" skull. The animal Jake encounters before he is attacked by the Thanator. Na'vi name is angtsìk.

Fan Lizard: Small, nocturnal forest animal that has a membrane which can extend allowing the animal to spin and fly away when disturbed.

Sturmbeest: a large six-legged herd animal that the Na'vi hunt for foor. A male has a single sharp horn sticking out of the forehead; females do not. Na'i name is talioang.

The winged flying things aren't birds. The Na'vi call them Ikran. To humans they're banshees.

There are several flying creatures that can be seen in the movie, but 2 are the most prominent. The mountain banshee, or ikran in Na'vi, are seen often and are the creatures the Na'vi bond with and ride. The large red flying creature is a Great Leonopteryx, or toruk in Na'vi.

In the December release in theaters, the Stingbat and Sturmbeest did not make the final cut, but appeared in the extended version. One animal that was not used at all was the Slinger, a fowl-esque animal that could launch its head like a dart to catch prey or defend itself with (yeah, no joke. It was in the book "James Cameron's Avatar: An Activist Survival Guide" by Maria Wilhelm and Dirk Mathison). Another animal was a meter-long carnivorous and violent fish called Dinicthoid.
