A computer (electronic filing) system is volatile, and can be lost should storage devices fail unexpectedly. Therefore, backups of important data must be kept - at least two backups kept off premises. Then should the worse happen, the backups can replace the data loss once a new computer system has been set up, and the filing system will be partially restored. If a backup was taken on Monday night, and the backup had to be restored to the system on Tuesday night, then all the work done during Tuesday would, obviously, not be included in the Monday backup - so Tuesday work would have to be redone.
