The diet in India varies from region to region, from culture to culture, both as a vegetarian and non vegetarian diet. It is never a balanced diet. There is some form of deficiency in mineral, vitamins and roughage in the diet. However the people have more carbohydrates in the form of rice or wheat flour as the staple diet. The diet may include lintels. The diet, in most regions lacks milk products, vegetables and fruits that may supplement the deficiency. In the coastal regions the diet may include fish , meat and eggs. The oil medium used in cooking also differs from region to region. The average calorie intake per person is low in rural areas compared to the urban people who consume more rich diet.
