I think you are talking about the older style TVs ? The 13" to 40" with the hard glass screens were called CRT tube TVs. The big one were CRT projection Tvs.

I recently bought a SOYO TV and have the same problem. I called SOYO tech support and they apparently they also can sell a univeral remote with soyo tv codes already loaded. Because SOYO is a newcomer to LCD screens, they simply are not in most remote control libraries. I recently bought a SOYO TV and have the same problem.
