Soap Opera refers to radio or television dramas aired primarily during the morning and afternoon hours. These dramas were traditionally geared to appeal to women, housewives in particular, who were at home. The programs were sponsored by companies like Proctor & Gamble and they sold a lot of detergents, hand lotion, and toothpaste to the stay-at-home moms. Hence the term, "Soap Opera."
Today, Soap Operas are dramatic television programs. Most air during the day in certain networks and some air at night during primetime. Soap operas follow certain elements and revolve around the relationships between the characters.
