The Muppets were originally, I believe a semi-feature act on the Jimmy Dean show. ( not the accident-victim actor known as the Mutant King) but a more or less country-and-western personality. as is known Jim Henson ( no longer with us) invented the Muppets. As originally conceived Kermit was not a true Frog but was a ( Frog Like Creature) Composite animals- ( Odd Ogg which was a toy, and Flub A dub which was a bizarre apparently flightless bird, have been staple juvenile characters, not necessarily monsters, but certainly freaks and funny-looking. As history decrees- the Muppets eventually settled down to domestic life on Sesame Street.
