The Titanic, registered as a British mail ship was really owned by the American railroad tycoon.

First, the White Star Line didn't want one ship, they wanted three. Before Titanic, they already had a nearly identical ship called the "Olympic" and after Titanic, a ship called the "Gigantic" was being built. Construction on it stopped after Titanic sank, and when WWI broke out, the British government paid to have it finished as a hospital ship and named it the "Britannic". This ship sank before the war was over (hit a mine), and thus never saw a career as a luxery liner. The Olympic was a passenger ship up until the late 1930's, when it was scrapped, though it served as a troop ship during WWI. Back to your question, The White Star Line had a primary rival company- the Cunard Line. In 1907, the Cunard Line came out with two ships: The Lusitania and the Mauritania. These ships were the largest ships, as well as leading in speed and luxury. White Star couldn't compete in speed, so they wanted to top the Cunard ships in size and luxury, and they did with the Titanic and Olympic.
White Star Lines was boat company that built the largest ship in her time the Titanic. The White Star Line main enemy was Cunard boat company.

The oldest person who survived the sinking of the Lusitania was J Bruce Ismay, at the age of 67. He was the chairman of the White Star Line, which operated the ship.

the white star line, if you mean the ship.
The White Star Line.
No, there was no connection. Lusitania and sister ship Mauretania belonged to Cunard Line and were slightly smaller but faster than White Star Line's Titanic, Olympicand Britannic. All were competitors in the lucrative New York to Southampton run.
The "RMS Titanic" was a British ship owned by the British shipping company White Star Line. See the related links below to read more about "RMS Titanic" and the White Star Line.
I don't know - I think it was the Lusitania. But the Titanic was never the fastest, only the biggest. The White Star Line had given up the speed race long ago. They were going for luxury.

R.M.S. Lusitania of the Cunard line. She was not a sister ship of the Titanic and the two ships were quite different mechanically the Lusitania was from-start Turbine driven, the Titanic was mixed reciprocating with a waste heat turbine for extra power. The Lusitania was older, having been built in l907. At the time the Cunard and White Star shipping companies were two separate firms- they later merged. Oh, yes the Lusitania incident occured in l9l5, not l9l7 ./ it did accelerate Us involvement in the War.
