The woods- really a jungle with all the stops pulled out including flying monkeys- which could be really weird and frightening- Darwin meets Dracula! is not described in detail. I am not sure if it is even called a jungle- also menacing carnivorous plants- another spin off from more mature (??) Jungle films. Fact is, in real life no Carnivorous plants large enough to hazard human life are extant!
Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Woodman, the Scarecrow, and the now Brave Lion were on their way to the Quadling country, to see Glinda the Good Witch of the South. They had left the Emerald City a day behind. And they were nearing the White China Country when they had to pass through a forest. As it turned out, the trees at the entrance to the woods were Fighting Trees. For one grabbed the Scarecrow in its branches and threw him back among his four friends. The Tin Woodman had his axe, and severed every branch that tried to do the same with the more vulnerable Dorothy and Toto. At the last minute, a smaller branch grabbed Toto and gave him a good shaking before meeting with the Tin Woodman's axe blade.
"What do you think you're doing?" is what the first tree says in the beloved 1939 film version of "The Wizard of Oz."
Specifically, Dorothy Gale, her pet dog Toto and their three friends see an apple orchard as they trudge down the Yellow Brick Road towards the Emerald City of Oz. Dorothy picks an apple off the branch instead of up from the ground. The first tree slaps her hand, asks the above question, and then announces that people can have only the apples on the ground. He then threatens the five friends with apples full of green worms and gets the other trees in the orchard to help him pelt the friends with apples.
