MBBS is Bachelor Degree in Medicine whereas BSc Nursing is Bachelors in Nursing.Medicine and Nursing are the two sides of the same coin called healthcare. Like MBBS,BSc(N) is also a Professional Degree in Healthcare.BSc(N) Graduates who are very much interested in Nursing can go for MSc(N) course. The Duration of MSc(N) course is 2 years. But one should complete minimum 1 year experience in Clinical/Teaching after BSc(N) or 1 year Internship after BSc(N). MSc(N) graduates are permitted to practice independently as Nurse Practitioner.A Nurse Practitioner is like a Medical Practitioner in all respect. They are permitted for Prescribing(Medicines),Diagnosis,Referral Services and also Minor Surgical.Nurse Practitioners are common in Europe and other Countries. In India also they are permitted but rare in availability. Now let us come to our topic. In India there is no lateral entry scheme available to MBBS.But in some of Europian Countries,Lateral Entry to MBBS course are available for BSc(N),BDS and BPT graduates with a duration for 1-3 Years. In Ukraine and Ireland,L.E is available. After the cousre, they will awarded the Degree as M.D -Physician in General Medicine. It is the first Degree in Medicine in Europe and equal to MBBS in India. They are permitted for Practice and Higher Education India after successful completion of Screening conducted by Medical Council Of India. BSc(N) covers almost all subjects of MBBS.So in India also they are eligible for Lateral Entry to MBBS.But in India, there is no provision currently available and We can expect it.
