IMAX 15/70 mm film is simply the size of each frame (individual picture) on the reels of film. The reason that the size is so large, compared to that of a standard movie theatre, is because of the size of the screen that the IMAX is being viewed on. A small film size would force a blurry picture, something that is unacceptable for industry standards.
IMAX is better than a regular movie theatre because of the size of the screen. The IMAX screen usually spans from wall to wall, unlike traditional screens that are mounted in the center of the room. The light used to project an IMAX film is a super bright 15,000 watt Xenon Bulb, which allows for a better, stronger, clearer picture with a higher rate of contrast. IMAX has special Sound Engenieers or Audio Engineers who specify in creating speakers with a more powerful output in addition to crystal quality sound. In addition, IMAX theatres are in general, of a much better quality, because of the standards that they have to abide by, set forth by IMAX corporation. IMAX tells the theatres which movies to play, how to show them, etc.

in one word- no. the sydney imax theatre has the biggest screen, however there are far bigger theatres in the world. im guessing that radio city, in new york is the biggest indoor theatre, however there are numerous outdoor theatres that are bigger. hope this helps
IMAX is a film corporation that distributes 15/70 mm films, which are larger than the movies distributed at your local theatre. This allows the films to be projected at a much larger level than that of a regular theatre. Usually, an IMAX theatre fills the almost the entire wall with the screen, instead of just a fraction of the wall. An IMAX Dome theatre is where you sit in the middle, and the picture is projected all around you.The bulb that is used to project the movie is also unlike that of a standard movie theatre. The projection bulb is a super bright Xenon Bulb which is 15,000 watts.
I suggest you try out the Imax theatre in SM Mall of Asia.

Every film house operates its business using a different compliment of equipment. You may be able to find an IMAX theatre with a separate and different 70MM projector. (IMAX film requires an IMAX 70MM projector.) As you can read, below, "...Conventional 70 mm systems were not steady enough for the 586× magnification."
If you go to the main IMAX website and find a theatre near you, go to their website and see if they are playing it. For example The IMAX theatre in palisades (NJ) will be playing it January 23. http://www.imax.com/palisades/ But it makes you register to see when the tickets will be sold. Cheers... Another HUGE U2 fan!
