Answer It sounds as though the pearls are attached with some sort of epoxy. If the pearls are thin-skin akoya removing them can be difficult as the pearls may be very brittle. But if the pearls are freshwater, South Sea or Tahitian, it will be quite easy. One method for removing pearls from a setting is called the soaking method. Soaking the jewelry in water may loosen the epoxy. There is also a solution called Attack which breaks down epoxy very quickly but is safe on pearls. Another method is to place the piece of jewelry in a cup of water and placing it in the microwave for a very short amount of time (don't let the water boil). The expansion the heat causes is often enough to break the grip of the glue.
