One of the biggest difference between the movie and book is the bat that is used by Roy Hobbs. In the Movie he takes the wood from a tree where his father dies. In the book he never really knows his father. Although his father was the one who taught him how to through a baseball, he want around much. As far as the bat goes he did get it from a tree which was struck by lightening.
