Yes, I'm sure it is, but these particular colonial coins of the former British Empire have little to nothing to do with Jews or Judaism. In all probability, the six-pointed star was probably chosen as a vague attempt to make peace between the Muslim and Christian populations found throughout West Africa. As a emblem that both Christian and Muslim believers share in common, its appearance upon the official currency of the realm should not come as a surprise. In fact, the British colonial flag of Nigeria featured a fairly large and prominent Star of David with a crown poised over top of it. Coins in Morocco have traditionally included the Star of David symbol as well. So, this particular form of hexagram was most certainly nothing new to Africa or to most Africans.
