It is a physical change, because you are only changing the shape of the clay and all of the chemical properties stay the same. Also, the molding of the clay is reversible.

An example of physical change would be a melting popsicle because the substance is changing from a solid to a liquid and keeps all of it's properties. The substance doesn't change, only the shape/form.
