No South Africa is not a communist country, it is a constitutional democracy.

The democratically elected ruling party, the African National Congress (or ANC) has left wing ties, and in fact a large volume of its support base is comprised of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and its trade-union allies, who fall under the umbrella of the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU).

It could be considered to be a left-of-centre democracy, but is not communist.
