Oh, dude, in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, the Mad Hatter definitely has a soft spot for Alice. I mean, who wouldn't love Alice with all her adventures in Wonderland? But like, it's not like they're gonna ride off into the sunset together or anything. It's more of a whimsical friendship vibe, you know?

According to Johnny Depp on an interview, he says its a brother and sister thing going on. But, the director Tim Burton, describes it as love. We all can watch the movie twice and see that huge change with the Mad Hatter's connection with Alice. Tim quoted at ysdeburtonalice.c23," The Mad Hatter sees Alice in a diffrent view, he connects to her not like any character in Wonderland." Which all of we know that, Mad Hatter is indeed in love with Alice.

Also, if you look at the original script for the movie, he kisses her twice, and almost kisses her a third time.

In the movie itself, there is no real reference to their relationships, but if you look at the original script, you see that he kisses her twice, and that her eyes light up whenever she looks at him. Both of these things are cut out of the true movie, but they were still in love in the original.

In Linda Woolverton's original script there were three kissing scenes between Alice and the Hatter. Why? Because Woolverton wrote the hatter with Johnny Depp in mind, because she has a major crush on him. Burton did not want his movie to be about a romance between Alice and Hatter so he scraped all references to a Alice/Hatter romance. Besides, Depp was like 25 years older than Wasikowska, and that would have been creepy.

Anyway, there are no moments in the movie that suggest anything romantic between the Hatter and Alice. Although there is some lovely chemistry between Alice and the White Queen, whether intentional or not.
