When Luke, Leia, and Han went to Endor to destroy the Death Star II's shield, Leia crashed her speeder. She was awakened by Wicket W. Warrick, an Ewok, because Ewoks were the native to the planet, so they just fit in. I'm not sure why exactly there are Ewoks in Star Wars, but they made Return of the Jedi a great movie.
