The first variable is the DD number which will of 6 digits, followed by 9 digit MICR code, then followed by the next 6 digits (may not exists in some banks) and lastly the 2 digit transaction code.

1. Apply online through internet banking for a DD which you can either get by courier or can visit the bank branch (where you have a/c);

2. Go to any bank branch with cash. Fill in the form available for DD there and submit it with the DD issuance charges at the designated counter/s.

Its a simple procedure, make a letter to the bank stating cancellation details, signed by authorised signatory,attach Demand draft( if DD is Lost , attach the acknowledement of DD Challan) the bank will transfer the fund to your account. It may be noted some banks have prescribed format for DD cancellation.

You need to take the draft to the bank branch where it was issued and then meet with the bank officials to check the procedure for the same. The standard procedure would be that, you write a letter requesting the bank to correct the spelling in the draft because it is incorrect. The bank will validate your details and then correct the draft for you. They may edit the details and countersign it or cancel the draft and reissue a new one for you.
