Try This. 1) Push in the clutch pedal. 2) Push the shift stick straight down...toward the ground, and hold down. 3) Push left...toward yourself. 4) Push back...toward the rear of the car. So that's DOWN, LEFT, BACK. The reason you have to go thru all the trouble is so that you don't accidentally stick it in reverse cruising down the road (that would be bad). If it doesn't stay in gear, the shift coupler in the center tunnel under the rear seat is probably hosed.
