In the TV series NCIS, Gibbs' wife Shannon witnessed a murder by a Mexican drug lord. NCIS was put on protection detail of his wife and daugher Kelly while Gibbs was overseas fighting in Desert Storm. Whilst driving Gibbs' family in a minivan, a sniper (the drug lord) shoots the NCIS agent, killing him instantly and causing the van to crash. Shannon and Kelly were both killed in the ensuing crash.
