Actually, this is a good question: many people try to contact celebrities and tell them sad stories. Whether it's boys or girls, the celebrity might feel sorry for the kid's situation. But keep in mind that most celebrities, Big Time Rush included, have a management company that fact-checks these stories, to make sure the person isn't trying to scam the celebrity or story is totally fake. So, if you see a kid with Big Time Rush, and the kid has a sad story, chances are it was already fact-checked and there was an agreement that the kid would get to meet the band. The band certainly liked to be seen as caring about others, and by most accounts, they are very personable and easy to talk to.
But since you asked about hugging guys, if you are hinting the band might be gay, there is no evidence of this. Several members come from cultures where hugging is very common, and the fact that a member of Big Time Rush hugs someone (be they male or female) is generally a way of showing empathy for the person who just told their story.
