Did Mulder die in the x files?

He is abducted in the Season 7 episode "Requiem" (also the last episode in the season). He is found dead in the Season 8 episode "This is Not Happening". He comes back from the following episode "Deadalive". He is in some of Season 8, including the closer(s) "Essence" and "Existence". He leaves after William is born in order to protect Scully and William from harm. He comes back for the final time in the Season 9 closer "The Truth".

Sort of. Episode number 175 of the x files ends with Fox Mulder apparently dead. In the next episode he is buried, but he is then exhumed and revives. In several other episodes, Mulder comes extremely close to death, but never actually dies. But in Anasazi, Mulder is caught in a buried freight train car with piles of alien bodies, which explodes with him in it. He is revived by Native Americans in a ritual, but during the ritual he undergoes a spiritual journey to (or hallucinates about being in) a dark place where he is spoken to by deceased individuals he knew. One may interpret this in different ways, but when Mulder is reunited with Scully in Paper Clip, he tells her, "I was a dead man. Now I'm back." If he was speaking literally, then this indicates that he did die.
