In a pinch, you can use tap water in a lead-acid battery. Since the minerals dissolved in the water will eventually poison the battery it isn't advisable to make a habit of it. If your reverse osmosis device removes most of the minerals you can probably substitute it for distilled water but you should confirm the quality of the water it produces before making a habit of it.

A quick method to check the quality would be to check the water's conductivity. Using an Ohm meter, compare its conductivity to that of distilled water at the same temperature. If the measurements are close then have at it.

Define reverse osmosis?

Reverse Osmosis is the method of producing pure water by forcing saline or impure water through a semipermeable membrane across which salts or impurities cannot pass. Reverse osmosis is used for water filtration, for desalinization of seawater, and in kidney dialysis machines.

What is a reverse osmosis system?

"A reverse osmosis system is often used to remove impurities in drinking water. This system will remove things such as rust and calcium carbonate, and makes drinking water safer. There is a much more detailed of the process of reverse osmosis on Wikipedia."

What is a sentence for the word osmosis?

The water tank used a reverse osmosis filtration system. Plants use osmosis to obtain water through their roots. Sleeping on a book will not transfer the knowledge by osmosis.

Where does reverse osmosis occur?

Reverse osmosis occurs when the water is moved across the membrane against the concentration gradient, from lower concentration to higher concentration. To illustrate, imagine a semipermeable membrane with fresh water on one side and a concentrated aqueous solution on the other side. If normal osmosis takes place, the fresh water will cross the membrane to dilute the concentrated solution. In reverse osmosis, pressure is exerted on the side with the concentrated solution to force the water molecules across the membrane to the fresh water side. Reverse osmosis is often used in commercial and residential water filtration. It is also one of the methods used to desalinate seawater. Sometimes reverse osmosis is used to purify liquids in which water is an undesirable impurity (e.g., ethanol).

How do water molecules move during osmosis?

Water molecules move from the region of high concentration to region of low concentration. No ATP spent in such a process. In purification of water reverse osmosis is used.

What is RODI?

A RODI is a Reverse Osmosis De-ionizer used for purifying water, especially in reef tanks.

What exactly is a reverse osmosis system?

Reverse osmosis system is utilized in filtering water, espcially water that is gather from salty streams and rivers. Also this filtration system is used for decontaminating water used in cities of every state. There are personal filtration systems that can be attached to the spigot for in home use as well.
