Bringing a BB gun from France back into the UK?

DECLARE IT - by going through the red channel ! ALL incoming (and outgoing) luggage is screened. IF you attempt to bring back such a weapon in your hand luggage or suitcase - without declaring you have it - you WILL be arrested ! Even if you declare it - you may be questioned at length over your reasons for having the weapon in your luggage.

The general rule is that it is forbidden to carry a gun in France, unless you work in a law enforcement job. Some permissions are granted to individuals after a vetting process by local police stations, but this is rare. The permission may be granted for members of shooting clubs, but only to go to the club range, and they cannot carry their guns openly. Hunters must have their permit and must carry the cartiridges separately form their shotgun.

Depends on the power of the gun. No licence is needed in France for an adult to own an air rifle with a power less than 10 joules at the muzzle and weighing less than 1.5kg. However, a) the customs officials would be justified in impounding the rifle for testing and b) How are you entering France? No airline, and few other carriers, will allow anything that looks like a rifle to be carried.
