The line what you said may come from a different translation, the verse above comes direct from the King James Version.
While this is a popular concept in some circles, it is not found in The Bible.
The Bible does say that faith comes from God (Ephesians 2:8).
I must admit you got me stumped. My search produced no answer.
But, if I may ask, does mere acting and not really having faith have merits in God's eye?

In the Bible, in the Gospel according to Luke, chapter 12, verse 48
You can find the verse "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" in 2 Corinthians 6:14. It encourages believers to not form close partnerships or relationships with those who do not share their faith.
