M is 1000. CM is 900. C is 100. V is 5. 1000+900+100+5 is 2005. That is the improper way of writing 2005 though. The proper way is MMV.

This is not a correct Roman Numeral. The V is the five unit. You use a C for 100 and M is 1000. This could be 2005 - 1000+900+100+5 - but more correctly would be written as MMV.
