Wages paid to workers in Biblical times were exactly the same as wages paid worldwide today: some workers were paid in local currency (money), while others were paid 'in kind', that is, their work was rewarded with goods, services and other entitlements.

As today, many workers received a mix of money and 'in kind' payments.
