Mark's Gospel contains sixteen chapters. It originally concluded at verse 16:8, after the young man told the women that Jesus was risen and when the fled in fear, telling no-one. Because it was the only gospel with no narrative of the appearances of the risen Jesus, various endings appeared to have been tried by later Christians, including the "Short Ending" and the "Long Ending". The "Long Ending" became widely accepted and is almost universally included in Bibles today. It concludes in verse 16:25.
