The Bible does not give a specific nationality for Luke, although careful reading of his gospel and Acts leads us to say that he was certainly a gentile (non-Jew). In addition, judging by the educated Greek that he used in both his books, it is almost certain that he was a native speaker placing Luke as a Greek.

In addition to this, tradition has it that he was born in Antioch (now in Turkey), then a town in the Graeco-Roman empire.

There is also evidence that Luke lived for a while in Troas - a town in Turkey that was built on, and surounded, the ruins of ancient Troy. Again, early and widespread tradition has it that luke died at the age of 84 in Boeotia and Luke's Tomb was located in Thebes in Greece, from whence his remains were transferred to Constantinople in the year 357.

The Gospels and Acts do not tell us his nationality. However, we can tell from his writings, from remarks made by Paul and from his learned and high-level Greek that Luke was not Jewish but a Gentile. The scriptures tell us little about his former life except that he was a medical doctor, a friend of Paul, and a later follower of Jesus

However, there is some secular and traditional evidence, and some secondary evidence that can be gleaned from scripture (if one 'reads between the lines' ), that suggests Luke was Greek, and most likely born in Antioch.
