At first The Bible was probably translated through word of mouth. Once the Israelites had a writing system they began writing it on scrolls. Things like Hindu teachings actually predate any Biblical writing, but that just shows that Eastern people began writing things down faster than the Israelites in the Middle East. There are pieces of papyrus (a kind of leaf ancient people used to make scrolls) with different sections of the Bible that date back before Jesus time (the most notable is the Dead Sea Scrolls). This is important because it basically proves that the we see the same Old Testament that Jesus did 2000 years ago.
