Although finding a common method of counting the words of various language is nearly impossible, most linguists would agree that the English language comes out on top, and this is due to its unique history. English was originally a Germanic language, but ever since the invasion of the Normans, it expanded to include many French and Latin words. While many other languages died out when their respective regions were conquered, English managed to expand and envelop large portions of invaders' and immigrants' languages, thus easily making it the language with the largest number of words today.
