it was the nazi party trying to exterminate all Jewish people and trying to take over the world

In addition to the above, in a bullet point format here is more information that indicates the magnitude of the complexity of this war. Space prevents a complete analysis:

1. By September 3, 1939, both France and Great Britain had declared war against Germany. The vote for war came within 72 hours of Germany's invasion of Poland;

2. The two Western allies were now faced with a huge problem in Europe. The Soviet Union, based on a secret clause in the so-called Nazi Soviet Non Aggression Pact, invaded Poland from the East. For all practical purposes the goal of France & Great Britain to insure the safety of Poland was now a mute point. Within one week the Polish army was defeated;

3. Although the Germans fought the war, it was Stalin who was the real winner. The Soviet Union gained one half of Poland and scarcely fired one shot; ( it was not until Gorbachev released KGB records was it proven what the Poles already knew. That Stalin had executed 15,000 Polish soldiers in their half of Poland )

4. Within the blink of an eye, France which had battled Germany four years in WW 1, was for all practical purposes defeated within 4 weeks. Final peace negotiations would prolong their official defeat, however.

5. In the Eastern Pacific, the Axis ally of Germany and Italy, Imperial Japan had been at war with China since 1931. As Japan was targeting the European colonies of Far East, no help from the Soviet Union was at hand. Moscow and Tokyo had signed a pact of neutrality.

6. The war's complexity only grew as Stalin, when finally in alliance with Britain, French freedom fighters, and the USA, did not declare war against Japan until 4 days before Japan surrendered;

7. Imperial Japan, at the anger of Hitler, never attacked the USSR. And, at the anger of the European Allied forces, Stalin never helped Great Britain in the Far East;

8. Hitler as we know, in 1940 threw away the Nazi- Soviet Non Aggression Pact and attacked the USSR;

9. Now the old Russia, in WW 1, was an ally of France & Great Britain, until Lenin withdrew from the war as per his agreement with Germany for its help to Lenin by secretly smuggling in the exiled Lenin to Russia. However, the rise of Hitler in 1933, placed the two Western allies, France & England, the situation of inviting Stalin to be the third ally against Hitler. Stalin, as we know took the Hitler offer, gauging Germany to be the best choice at the time;

10. The propaganda war by Hitler to keep America out of any alliance with Great Britain & France was successful due to American reluctance to become involved in yet another world war. Much of its success was due to the former reason, but was also due to Hitler's evil but clever protests against the Imperialism and non-democratically rule of millions of "third world people" held captive by England & France;

11. The bad promise to Imperial Japan by Hitler complexity follows.

Despite Japanese failure to attack Russia, and conversely Stalin's neutrality compact with Tokyo, Hitler was sure that America would, nor could fight a two front war. He did urge Japan to the best he could to not provoke the USA into making a decision to enter the war. Tokyo apparently had its own world view in late 1941.

As it came to be, Pearl Harbor forced America's hand against Japan, and Hitler kept his promise to declare war against America.

12. The chaos in the aftermath of WW II brought about the Cold War and to this day the disarmament of Japan.
