If treated with respect there are no real disadvantages. If you live near the beach like I do then a disadvantage is beach erosion, hurricanes, salt corrosion, seagull poo. If you are out on the ocean in a little boat and a storm comes up then you are at a disadvantage. However most of the disadvantages are because we put ourselves in a position that we shouldn't be in. One thing I heard was that when we go swimming in the ocean we become part of the food chain.
