It depends on both the amount of time and the type of shower head. It usually ranges from 20 to 160 liters of water for a ten minute shower.

Edit: A typical shower will use about 160 liters of water. In addition, the average shower uses approximately 10.0022 liters of water per minute. (EarthCareCanada.com)

That may depnd on your shower fitting, water pressure, water tempreature and so on.

A new New Zealand designed shower head called the Methven Satin Jet is proving effective at 7.6 litre per minute. I've just installed 315 of them into a hotel, cutting down from nearly 15 litre per minute and so far getting very good comments on great showers from guests. :-)

The old 30 litre per minute water waste showers are simply poor water droplet dispersion. Good pressure is important but the nozzle design is the key. You need a sensation of wetness, and Methven AMOUNG OTHERS is achieving this with directing miniture jets of water at each other to atomise the spray giving a wetter feel with less water. I love efficiency, but when this pays back so fast I get really wound up ;-) The hotel will have paid back the full set of new showers in under a year from water and energy savings.
