American's claimed that their cause for revolution was to seek freedom. In fact, Great Britain at the time possessed the most civil government in the world. The true reason American's revolted was that an established oligarchy and Upper Class of intellectuals and buisnessmen felt their business threatened by the British trade and tax systems, and used their resources to manipulate the uneducated proletariate in an attempt to sway british attempts to strangle American buisnessmen, or to form a new nation with no checks or little check on the trade and power of the Upper Class.
