The origins of the tension between the US and Japan, which ultimately led to the attack on Pearl Harbor, dates back to the early part of the 20th Century.
In summary:
In response to Japan's declaration of war on China, which occurred in 1937, and then in 1940, further advancing their troops into northern Indo-China, the US demanded that Japan withdraw from China. Japan refused the demands of the US.
In July, 1941 after Japan had refused to withdraw from China, the US, (who supplied Japan with approximately 80% its oil resources, and many of the country's other resources) imposed a complete oil embargo on Japan. This decision, and event is what triggered Japan to attack Pearl Harbor.
The reason Pearl Harbor was chosen, as point of target, was, in May of 1940, the US Navy had moved its US Fleet headquarters from San Pedro, California, to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Ironically, the move was a planned one on President Roosevelt's part, to counter Japan's increasing maneuvers and presence in the South Pacific. This decision, and the United States' under estimation of the ability of Japan's military to successfully attack the Navy's fleet at Pearl Harbor, was critical to Japan's successful
plan and attack.
Pearl harbor was an american military base in the pacific , the US was rightly aware of the danger that Japan would be for their strategic interests in the Pacific Ocean so they put ships there and created Pearl Harbor . On the Other Hand Japan wanted the US to understand that the pacific was part of Japanese zone of influence and they did so by destroying the Us fleet at Pearl Harbor as we know it today .
"Compromise" suggests that there was a negotiation of some sort and the attack on Pearl Harbor was a middle ground. No such thing happened. The 'conflict' was between the Japanese planes and the gun crews on the ships and harbor defenses.
Pearl Harbor is on the Island of Oahu, and so is the city of Honolulu.
There were present at Pearl Harbor 8 cruisers, 2 heavy cruisers and 6 light cruisers when the attack came. Three cruisers were damaged but none were destroyed.
Pearl Harbor came as a surprise to the U.S., so Roosevelt was able to do nothing about it.
There were 2,403 deaths at Pearl Harbor, 68 were Civilian so 2,335 were soldiers. Of that 2,335, 1,199 were trapped within the USS Arizona when it was bombed.
a military base so to speak. it had a lot of our ships there

Jet planes had yet to be developed , so there were none at Pearl Harbor .
Pearl Harbor was part of America. It was the Japanese who actually attacked Pearl Harbor. What they did was they sent a large number of aircraft into the Harbor. The objective was to destroy as much of the U.S. Navy positioned there as possible. To do this, they did many things. They bombed the ships and shot them with the armaments on their planes. (What I mean is they bombed them and shot them with missiles and guns.) Also, they crashed into the ships. When a plane either ran out of ammo or was about to go down, the pilot would attempt to crash into a ship. Most of the planes had explosives in them that they did not use, so when they needed to do this they could add a bigger bang to the explosion.

In 1941 Pearl Harbor was the biggest home to many battle ships, sub marines and army forts in the United States. The Phllippine Islands was a territory of the US and also had ships and army. It was attacked at the same time. Answer The Japanese wanted to strike at the US Navy and specifically the Aircraft Carriers so that they could continue their quest to conquer the Pacific without worry of intervention.
The reason why the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor was because Japan wanted to takeover some islands that were heavily guarded so they bombed Pearl Harbor so it is easier to take over the islands.

Among many other things not at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 2941, the US aircraft carriers were on exercises at sea and so not available to be bombed by the Japanese.
No, the U.S. bombed japan more or less as a result of Pearl Harbor. Relations between the U.S. and Japan were already sour due to the depression and Pearl Harbor pushed the U.S. that little extra bit to bomb Japan.
